The Citizen Hotel

Sacramento, CA

A joint venture between developer Rubicon Partners and operator Joie de Vivre Hospitality, The Citizen Hotel was a truly massive undertaking converting a 1922 Beaux Arts highrise office building to one of the region's most prestigious boutique hotels.  Only blocks away from the State Capitol, the former Cal Western Life Insurance building was stripped down to it's original structure and built back with seismic damper braces, new HVAC system, new electrical system, new plumbing system, new fenestration systems and so much more as the backbone support for 198 stylish new rooms, 5 luxurious penthouse suites, 15,000 SF of event space and one of Sacramento's premier restaurants.

Arguably the single most important building conversion project in Sacramento history, "authentic, influential, surprising, eclectic and all-American" were the descriptive words from the client and the guiding principles for the hotel design.   Located on the corner of 10th and J Streets, The The Citizen Hotel's unique combination of historic charm and modern amenities brings a new kind of luxury to downtown Sacramento.
